Contraindications
Do not administer if your dog or cat is pregnant or nursing. Do not administer to your dog/cat is they have Osteoporosis or Candidiasis. Due to the presence of highly biologically active form of chromium, supplementation with Brewer's Yeast could potentially enhance the effect of insulin for diabetes and could potentially lead to hypoglycemia. Brewer's yeast is a fungus. Medications for fungal infections help reduce fungus in and on the body and taking Brewer's Yeast with medications for fungal infections can reduce effectiveness.
Drug Interactions
Could potentiate medications used to for Osteoporosis, Candidiasis or diabetes. Brewer's yeast contains the amino acid tyramine. If taken in conjunction with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or the pain medication meperidine (Demerol), the resulting interaction can cause a hypertensive crisis. Allergies are always a potential with any botanical product, so pets with a known sensitivity to yeast should avoid this supplement. Pets with diabetes should be careful when taking brewer's yeast. If taken in significant quantity, the supplement can reduce serum glucose levels. Drugs that are metabolized through the cytochrome P-450 enzyme chain, (anti-fungals), may reduce any anticipated action of the yeast supplement.Cautions
Due to the presence of highly biologically active form of chromium, supplementation with Brewer's Yeast could potentially enhance the effect of insulin for diabetes and could potentially lead to hypoglycemia. Use caution if your dog or cat has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease or other Inflammatory Bowel Diseases or is immunocompromised due to the possible risk of fungemia. Please add calcium to your dog or cat’s diet if they are consuming large amounts of Brewer’s Yeast. Heat and dampness may alter the action of the supplement. Some dogs or cats are allergic to yeast. Introduce Brewer’s Yeast slowly into your pet’s diet. If you see any signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue the brewer's yeast immediately. Short-term use is recommended.Dosage
