Ingredients*

Alcohol free extract, including Gayana Manayupa, Pulmonaria, Vulgare (Fennel), Eucalyptus and Propolis Honey 

Contraindications

Gayana: The leaves contain naturally occurring coumarins. Coumarin has an anti-coagulant and blood thinning effect and is a precursor to Coumadin drugs. Consult with your Vet if your pet is taking Coumadin drugs or if Coumadin anticoagulant type drugs are contraindicated for your pet’s condition.

Pulmonaria: Pulmonaria might decrease the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin (antibiotic, Cipro) the body absorbs. To avoid this interaction, take pulmonaria at least one hour after ciprofloxacin (Cipro). Taking pulmonaria along with estrogen pills might decrease the effects of estrogen pills.

Eucalyptus: This plant has been documented with hypoglycemic effects. Pets with hypoglycemia and/or diabetes should only use this plant under the care and direction of a qualified Vet or owner who can monitor blood glucose levels. Eucalyptus may be possibly contraindicated during pregnancy. In herbal medicine systems, the plant is used as a sedative and may potentiate (strengthen) the effects of other sedatives, pain killers and barbiturates. 

Vulgare: None reported. Vulgare may possibly exaggerate allergies to celery, carrot and mugwort.

Propolis Honey: Animals with an allergy to bee stings (bee venom), intolerance to honey, or allergy to ragweed/chrysanthemums should avoid bee pollen products. Honey has been known to cause small to severe allergic reactions in animals allergic to bees/pollen. Reaction can include anaphylaxis, an acute allergic response, which may be life threatening. 

Drug Interactions

Gayana: Ayapana may enhance or increase the effect of blood-thinning medications.

Pulmonaria: Estrogen-sensitive cancers are cancers that are affected by estrogen levels in the body. Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) is used to help treat and prevent estrogen-sensitive cancers and Pulmonaria might decrease the effectiveness of tamoxifen (Nolvadex).

Eucalyptus: May potentiate insulin and diabetic medications and barbiturate drugs. Taking eucalyptus along with some medications that are broken down by the liver can increase the effects and side effects of some medications. Talk to your Vet before you begin administering Eucalyptus if your pet is diabetic or is using insulin or liver medications.

Vulgare: May increase drowsiness caused by some drugs such as benzodiazepines, lorazepam (Ativan) or diazepam (Valium), barbiturates such as Phenobarbital, narcotics such as codeine and some anti-depressants.

Propolis Honey: None reported.

Cautions

Gayana: Contains natural coumarins which may enhance or increase the effect of blood-thinning medications.

Pulmonaria: Do not use if your pet is pregnant or nursing.

Eucalytpus: This product contains Eucalyptus Extract, which is safe. (Eucalyptus oil is UNSAFE when it is either taken by mouth or applied directly to the skin without first being diluted. Eucalyptus Extract and Oil is not the same product.) Developing research suggests eucalyptus leaf might lower blood sugar. Use caution if your pet has diabetes or is taking medications for diabetes and monitor blood sugar levels closely. Discontinue use at least 2 weeks prior to surgery as blood sugar control might be difficult during and after surgery. Use caution if your pet is pregnant or nursing.

Vulgare: Some dogs/cats can have allergic skin reactions to Vulgare. Pets that are allergic to plants such as celery, carrot, and mugwort may also be allergic to vulgare. Vulgare can also make skin extra sensitive to sunlight. If your pet has a heart disorder, use caution due to potential sedative effects. Use caution during pregnancy or nursing. One study suggests vulgare aggravates liver damage in animals while another study supports liver regeneration in animals with parts of their liver removed. If your pet has liver disease or liver damage, talk to your Vet prior to starting Vulgare.

Propolis Honey: Do not use if your pet has hypersensitivity or allergies to pollen. Consult with your Vet if your pet has blood disorders or liver disease. Hypersensitivity reaction includes pruritus, swelling, sneezing, anaphylaxis, hypereosinophilia, and eosinophilic gastroenteritis consisting of nausea, and diarrhea. Animals with an allergy to bee stings (bee venom), intolerance to honey, or allergy to ragweed/chrysanthemums should avoid bee pollen products. Honey has been known to cause small to severe allergic reactions in animals allergic to bees/pollen. Reaction can include anaphylaxis, an acute allergic response, which may be life threatening.
